The construction of the new Benghazi International Airport is emerging as one of Libya’s most ambitious and strategic infrastructure projects, reflecting a broader vision for national development and modernization.
The project is being carried out by the National Development Agency with direct supervision from Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA).
Current data shows that overall completion has reached 18.37%, with momentum continuing to grow. Nearly 1,971 personnel are working across the site, supported by more than 300 heavy machines and specialized equipment, operating around the clock to meet construction milestones.
The airport is expected to become a new symbol of progress for Benghazi, serving not only as a modern aviation hub but also as a landmark of national renewal. It is designed to enhance Libya’s connectivity to the region and the world, positioning Benghazi as a key point of access for international travelers, cargo, and future commercial investment.
Officials see the airport as a core element in Libya’s plan to modernize its transportation sector and to stimulate economic activity across eastern Libya. Once operational, the facility is set to handle large volumes of passengers and goods, relieving pressure on existing infrastructure and opening new gateways for trade and tourism.
Beyond its economic value, the project represents a deeper signal of national recovery and long-term strategic planning. After years of disruption and instability, the airport stands as a high-profile investment in the country’s future and an anchor for urban and regional development.
