Al-Thinni: Electricity Problem Will Be Overcome Next Week

August 27, 2020

The Prime Minister of the eastern-based Interim Government, Abdullah Al-Thinni confirmed that the electricity problem will be largely overcome as of next Sunday. This is thanks to the sufficient availability of gas for power plants.

This announcement came during the PM’s meeting with Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh, on Wednesday. They dealt with developments concerning the COVID-19 epidemiological situation, the availability of food and medicine supplies, and the electricity crisis.

The eastern region witnessed an electricity crisis, due to Zueitina and North Benghazi stations being unable to operate, following the suspension of natural gas production. As a result, reservoirs in the oil ports were at maximum capacity.

On Monday, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) sent the ship Valle Di Siviglia to the Brega oil port with a shipment of 30,000 tons of condensate. This is to provide sufficient storage capacities, and ensure the continuation of gas production. It is supposed to complete its work by Tuesday.
