The Supreme Council of Libya’s Amazigh community has welcomed the United Nations Support Mission in Libya’s (UNSMIL) newly proposed political roadmap, expressing full support for efforts to end the country’s prolonged political division and instability.

In an official statement, the Council praised the UN mission’s commitment to unifying Libya’s fragmented institutions and initiating a comprehensive national dialogue that includes “all Libyans without exception.” The statement emphasized that such a dialogue is essential to “unify ranks, overcome the repeated transitional stages, and lay the foundations for lasting stability.”

Support for Inclusive Representation

The Amazigh Supreme Council also commended the UN’s insistence on ensuring the representation of all Libyan communities within the political process.
It stressed that such participation must come through legitimate bodies that “truly express the will of their constituencies,” paving the way toward free and fair elections capable of achieving “a lasting stability that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people in all their diversity.”

The Council’s message aligns with recent UN efforts led by Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, Head of UNSMIL, to relaunch a structured national dialogue that brings together Libya’s major political, tribal, and social components under a unified framework. The roadmap seeks to end years of institutional division and prepare the ground for credible national elections.

A Step Toward Stability

The Amazigh Council’s endorsement adds momentum to the UN’s initiative at a time when Libyan factions remain divided between rival governments in Tripoli and Benghazi. Analysts say the inclusion of minority communities such as the Amazigh will be crucial to achieving sustainable peace and legitimacy for any future electoral process.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Amazigh Council’s “full support for the UN mission’s efforts to bring Libyans together and ensure an inclusive, transparent, and democratic transition.”
