LNA Spokesman Denies Rumours of Violation of Ceasefire West of Sirte

On Thursday, the spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, denied all rumours circulating on social media outlets claiming that some LNA units have used artillery to target militias deployed in the west of Sirte and affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA).

In a statement, Al-Mismari affirmed the LNA’s complete commitment to the ceasefire announced on June 8th.

He explained that the militias are spreading such false news in order to justify their impending hostile operations against the LNA and to cover up the popular protests in Tripoli rejecting the Government of National Accord (GNA)’s rule as well as Turkey’s intervention, its use of mercenaries and criminal militias that control Tripoli.

Earlier, Al-Mismari warned that any offensive would be met by force and that the LNA forces are on the highest alert to defend the city against any sudden attack.

Al-Mismari also described Fayez al-Sarraj’s ceasefire initiative as nothing more than a ploy to mislead local and international public opinion and cover up their true intentions to control all of Libya.

He pointed out that the LNA has detected suspicious movements and transfer of units over the past 24 hours, including 2 Turkish-made frigates and 3 warships advancing towards the coast of Sirte in a combat position to attack the LNA’s armed forces stationed there.
