Tunisia’s Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Riadh Chaoued, announced that Tunisia is preparing to sign a new agreement with Libya on 10 November to regulate the movement of labour and skilled professionals between the two countries.
Speaking before the Tunisian Parliament, Chaoued said the agreement follows his visit to Tripoli in April, during which both sides reached an understanding on recruiting Tunisian workers for Libyan projects. The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and enhance employment opportunities for Tunisian professionals abroad.
The upcoming accord aims to establish a structured framework to manage the mobility of Tunisian workers and ensure mutual benefits for both nations. It will also focus on aligning qualifications and professional standards to meet Libya’s labour market needs, particularly in construction, healthcare, and technical fields.
Chaoued also revealed that discussions are underway to create regional training centres in partnership with Libya and Algeria. These centres would provide vocational training and skills development programmes to prepare workers for regional and international employment opportunities.
In parallel, Tunisia is preparing to conclude a similar agreement with Qatar to facilitate the movement of Tunisian workers to Doha. The minister emphasised that each agreement will be established within a clear legal framework designed to protect Tunisian workers’ rights and ensure transparency and good governance in overseas employment practices.
The Tunisian government views these agreements as essential steps to address domestic unemployment, boost bilateral cooperation, and strengthen its presence in regional labour markets.
