The Italian Embassy in Libya announced on Friday that Italy has renewed its financial support to assist Libya in managing the growing humanitarian impact of Sudanese refugee arrivals, confirming a new contribution worth €3 million to the World Food Programme (WFP).
In its statement, the embassy said the funding aims to strengthen food assistance and emergency relief programmes targeting vulnerable communities affected by the influx of people fleeing the conflict in Sudan.
According to humanitarian agencies, Libya has witnessed a notable increase in Sudanese arrivals over the past year, particularly through remote border crossings where access to food, shelter, and medical support remains extremely limited.
WFP operations in Libya focus on emergency food parcels, nutrition support, and long-term resilience programmes designed to strengthen local supply chains and improve access to essential goods. With the new Italian funding, the organisation is expected to scale up distributions in border areas and reinforce logistical capabilities ahead of winter.
Humanitarian officials in Libya have repeatedly warned that the ongoing crisis in Sudan continues to fuel unpredictable population movements into Libya, placing additional pressure on already fragile local infrastructures.
