On Saturday, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez Al-Sarraj, directed his Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation, Al-Mahdi al-Amin to prepare a comprehensive list of unemployed Libyan graduates in order to be trained and appointed in the public sector’s companies and institutions.
According to the decision No. 567 of 2020, a central committee has been formed, under the chairmanship of a Presidential Council Deputy and with the membership of the Undersecretaries of the Labour and Finance Ministries, to follow-up all procedures taken for the appointment of the listed unemployed youth.
The decision stated that all competent authorities are tasked to implement the training programs as of November 1, 2020 according to what will be approved by the Presidential Council.
The Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Libya and all relevant authorities are committed to providing financial coverage for the implementation of the operational and training programs for the unemployed youth in the country.
Notably, Al-Sarraj announced the suspension of his Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha, pending an investigation, in a formal document published on Friday.
Sources said Bashagha’s temporary suspension may be due to an attempted plot against Al-Sarraj although the GNA said the official reasoning behind the decision was due to his ministry’s handling of the recent protests in Tripoli, in which excessive use of force was observed.
“Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha has been temporarily suspended” and will face an inquiry “on his statements about the protests and incidents in Tripoli and other cities,” the GNA said Friday.
Demonstrations began last Sunday in Tripoli, the seat of the GNA, against poor public services and living conditions, and gunmen fired on the crowd. Similar shootings occurred on Monday and Wednesday.
