Libya is set to restore air connectivity with Syria as Syrian Arab Airlines announced plans to launch a new Aleppo–Tripoli route in the coming weeks. The decision marks a significant step towards strengthening travel and economic ties between the two nations, following years of limited air traffic.
Syrian Arab Airlines General Manager Sameh Arabi revealed that the Tripoli route will follow the upcoming launch of the Aleppo–Doha service, reflecting the carrier’s strategy to expand its regional network. The airline currently operates flights from Aleppo to Istanbul, Kuwait, Jeddah, and Dubai.
Speaking during a meeting with Aleppo’s tourism director and local travel agencies, Arabi described the initiative as part of a broader effort to enhance cooperation with tourism stakeholders and address challenges facing the air travel sector. He emphasised that the expansion aims not only to boost commercial operations but also to reinforce cultural and economic exchange between Syria and partner countries such as Libya.
Arabi added that Syrian Air will reopen its main office in Aleppo and gradually increase its fleet beyond the current four aircraft. He stressed the company’s readiness to collaborate with private tourism firms to revitalise air services and promote regional connectivity.
Director of Air Operations Ghazwan Sabbagh confirmed that Syrian Air is finalising preparations across all its stations, noting that Aleppo International Airport now handles nearly 80% of Damascus’s flight activity. He said the airline remains committed to expanding routes once regulatory clearances are complete.
Officials underscored that the reintroduction of direct flights between Aleppo and Tripoli will play a vital role in supporting tourism, business travel, and regional cooperation — marking a symbolic milestone in Libya–Syria relations.
