Libyan House of Representatives member Abdelmonem Al-Arfi has sharply criticised the announcement of what is being called the “Higher Council of Presidencies,” arguing that the U.S.-driven political track is steering Libya away from the United Nations framework and pushing it toward failure.
Speaking to the Sifr platform, Al-Arfi said the newly declared body is not a coordination mechanism for national issues, as its founders claim, but an overt alliance seeking to steer the country and tighten its grip on political decision-making. He warned that the move aims to pressure the House of Representatives into joining the initiative, ultimately prolonging Libya’s political crisis.
Al-Arfi dismissed circulating claims about the creation of a sovereign council to unify the country, calling them entirely unfounded and saying such proposals do not serve the national interest.
In a separate context, Al-Arfi described the expected meeting between Abdel-Salam Al-Zoubi and Saddam Haftar in Abu Dhabi — aimed at forming a joint force — as a positive sign. He noted that a similar step had previously taken place between Major Al-Hussan and Saddam Haftar, considering both developments part of efforts to advance the higher national interest.
