A Libyan parliamentary delegation has paid an official visit to Russia, holding high-level meetings aimed at strengthening legislative cooperation and enhancing oversight frameworks between the two countries. The delegation, led by MP Zaied Hedia and accompanied by MPs Nasser Bin Nafa, Al-Sadiq Al-Kohaili, and Faraj Al-Safti, began its visit on Friday with a series of engagements at the Russian Federation Council.

According to the House of Representatives, the delegation met the Chair of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, as well as the Chair of the Committee on Parliamentary Rules and Organisational Activities. The discussions focused on expanding parliamentary cooperation, improving institutional performance, and reinforcing mechanisms for accountability and transparency.

Both sides explored opportunities to exchange expertise on legislative development, oversight roles, and governance practices. The delegation highlighted Libya’s efforts to strengthen institutional frameworks, unify state structures, and enhance the effectiveness of parliamentary committees, particularly those responsible for monitoring government functions.

The talks also addressed regional and international political developments. The two sides exchanged views on current geopolitical dynamics and the impact of global tensions on North Africa, the Mediterranean, and broader international stability. They underscored the importance of continued dialogue between parliamentary institutions and the value of engaging through specialised committees to support mutual interests.

The visit comes as Libya’s House of Representatives seeks to expand its international partnerships and foster closer cooperation with countries that play influential roles on the global stage. The delegation emphasised that deepening ties with legislative bodies can contribute to improving governance practices, supporting transparency, and developing a modern regulatory environment aligned with international standards.

The meetings concluded with an agreement to maintain communication channels and explore further technical cooperation between committees in both parliaments, with a shared objective of strengthening parliamentary performance and supporting future joint initiatives.
