Libya and Morocco have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and encouraging investment, as part of broader efforts to support private sector growth and diversify national income sources.
The agreement was signed between the Zliten Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the Tangier–Tetouan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services in Morocco. The MoU was signed on the Libyan side by Jalal Bani, Chairman of the Zliten Chamber’s Management Committee, and on the Moroccan side by Abdellatif Afilal, President of the Tangier–Tetouan Chamber, according to a statement issued by Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade under the interim Government of National Unity.
The ministry said the memorandum seeks to enhance technical coordination and institutional integration between the two chambers in a way that serves shared economic interests. Key areas of cooperation include facilitating visa procedures for businesspeople, organizing joint trade exhibitions, and promoting the exchange of information, expertise, and training programmes.
The MoU also provides for preparations to host a “Made in Libya” exhibition in Morocco and a “Made in Morocco” exhibition in Libya, in addition to organizing a Libyan–Moroccan Economic Forum in Tripoli. The initiative aims to strengthen commercial ties, open new markets for businesses in both countries, and stimulate cross-border investment.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the agreement falls within the strategic vision of the Zliten Chamber and is being implemented under the ministry’s supervision. It aligns with Libya’s broader policy direction toward economic diversification, investment attraction, and the creation of a more enabling business environment to support sustainable development across the country.
