A commercial vessel carrying an estimated 7,500 metric tonnes of wheat has arrived at Sirte Free Zone Port, strengthening supplies to the Libyan market and supporting national food security.
The port’s administration said the cargo ship AK GLORIOUS docked on Thursday after sailing from Izmail Port. The vessel, with a draught of seven metres, was received in line with established technical and safety procedures.
According to the statement, port technical teams began unloading and handling operations immediately upon berthing, applying approved standards to ensure fast throughput and the smooth routing of the wheat cargo to designated distribution channels. The process is intended to accelerate delivery to the domestic market while reinforcing Libya’s strategic grain reserves.
Port officials said the arrival of the shipment reflects the high operational readiness of Sirte Free Zone Port to handle large vessels and diverse cargo types. They added that the port continues to serve as a key logistics gateway linking Libya with global markets.
The administration stressed that the steady flow of strategic commodities through the port contributes to economic stability and underpins development efforts, particularly as work continues to upgrade infrastructure and improve operational efficiency across the facility.
The wheat shipment comes amid ongoing efforts to secure staple food supplies for Libya, highlighting the growing role of Sirte Free Zone Port in regional trade and supply-chain resilience.
