Libyan Authorities Foil Illegal Alcohol Production in Southeastern Libya

Libyan security authorities in the southeastern city of Kufra have arrested two Sudanese nationals accused of manufacturing and selling locally produced alcohol at a private farm, as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in border regions.

According to an official statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department’s Kufra branch, the operation was launched after authorities received precise intelligence from reliable sources indicating the presence of an illicit alcohol production site inside a farm used by members of the Sudanese community.

Following the report, a specialized investigation and arrest unit was tasked with verifying the information and monitoring the location.

After confirming the illegal activity, security forces prepared and executed a coordinated raid on the farm. The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the discovery of what authorities described as a fully equipped facility for producing local alcoholic beverages. Officials said the setup indicated organized and ongoing production rather than a one-time or small-scale operation.

During the search of the premises, officers seized 35 large containers, each with a capacity of approximately 60 liters, containing gasoline believed to have been prepared for smuggling. Authorities also confiscated a range of tools, materials, and equipment used in the fermentation and storage of alcoholic drinks. The presence of fuel alongside the production equipment raised additional concerns about potential links to broader smuggling activities in the area.

The suspects were transferred to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department in Kufra, where they remain in custody pending further questioning. Legal proceedings are now underway, and the case will be referred to the competent judicial authorities in accordance with Libyan law.

Security officials emphasized that the operation is part of a wider campaign to address illegal manufacturing, smuggling, and other criminal activities that pose risks to public safety and social stability. They stressed that strict measures will be taken against anyone involved in the production or distribution of alcohol or other illicit goods.
