Members of the Libyan House of Representatives who also sit in the Arab Parliament—Dr. Abdel Salam Nasia, Hassan Al-Barghouthi, and Dr. Ahlam Al-Lafi—took part on Saturday in the second plenary session of the Arab Parliament’s second legislative term, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

The session reviewed a range of pressing regional issues, with the Palestinian cause reaffirmed as the central issue of the Arab nation, alongside discussions on political and security developments across several Arab countries.

On Libya, the Arab Parliament renewed its firm and consistent position in support of reaching a comprehensive political settlement based on a purely Libyan will, free from external interference. Lawmakers stressed that an inclusive political solution remains the only viable path toward restoring stability and rebuilding unified state institutions.

The Arab Parliament emphasized that holding long-delayed presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible date is essential to ending the transitional phases, restoring constitutional legitimacy, and consolidating political and institutional stability across the country. It underlined that credible and inclusive elections, grounded in a consensual legal and constitutional framework, represent the cornerstone for a sustainable political process in Libya.

The Libyan delegation highlighted the importance of continued Arab support for national reconciliation efforts, the unification of state institutions, and the creation of conditions conducive to a peaceful transfer of power through the ballot box. They also called for stronger Arab coordination to back Libyan-led initiatives aimed at overcoming political divisions and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The session also witnessed organizational developments within the Arab Parliament, with Major General Hisham Al-Hasri of Egypt elected as Vice President of the Arab Parliament, and Ayman Naqra of Tunisia elected Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs, and National Security.

These appointments come as the Arab Parliament seeks to enhance its role in addressing regional crises and supporting political solutions based on dialogue, international law, and respect for the will of Arab peoples, including in Libya, where the need for a comprehensive and durable settlement remains a top regional priority.
