Libyan Parliament Condemns Attack on “Al-Toum” Border Crossing

The Defense and National Security Committee of the Libyan Parliament has strongly condemned what it described as a “treacherous attack” targeting the Al-Toum border crossing in southern Libya, warning that the incident carries serious security implications for the region and beyond.

In an official statement, the committee said the attack was a deliberate attempt to undermine stability and spread chaos in southern Libya, stressing that such actions will not weaken the state’s resolve to protect its borders or safeguard national sovereignty. The committee emphasized that securing border crossings remains a strategic priority, particularly in areas vulnerable to armed infiltration and cross-border threats.

The committee paid tribute to members of the armed forces who were killed while repelling the attack, honoring them as fallen heroes who gave their lives in defense of the nation. It also expressed solidarity with the wounded, wishing them a swift recovery, and praised the sacrifices made by military personnel tasked with defending Libya’s territorial integrity.

The statement warned that any form of support, financing, or logistical assistance provided to outlawed armed groups—whether originating inside Libya or from external actors—constitutes a direct violation of Libyan sovereignty. Such actions, the committee said, risk destabilizing not only the southern region but also neighboring countries, potentially triggering wider security repercussions across the region.

The committee called on all parties to respect the principles of good neighborliness and international law, urging regional actors to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions or enable armed groups operating outside state authority. It stressed that border security is a shared responsibility with direct implications for regional stability.

At the same time, the committee praised the swift and decisive response of the Libyan Armed Forces, commending their readiness, discipline, and operational effectiveness in confronting and neutralizing the threat. The rapid response, the statement said, prevented further escalation and demonstrated the armed forces’ continued ability to secure sensitive border areas.

The Defense and National Security Committee reaffirmed its full support for the armed forces and all national institutions working to protect Libya’s borders and maintain security. It concluded by stressing that Libya will remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or threaten its stability, and that those responsible for such attacks will be confronted decisively.
