The Libyan Red Crescent has announced the successful rescue of 45 irregular migrants of various nationalities, including women and children, after their boat was found at sea in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Tobruk.

In a statement, the organization said the rescue operation was launched following a distress report received from the Tobruk Coast Guard, which alerted authorities to the migrant vessel in difficulty offshore.

The Libyan Red Crescent confirmed that its Tobruk branch immediately provided emergency first aid and psychological support to the rescued migrants, in line with its humanitarian mandate. Medical and relief services were delivered on-site to ensure the safety and well-being of the survivors.

Libya remains a major transit point along the central Mediterranean migration route, where humanitarian agencies and maritime authorities continue to carry out rescue operations amid ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting sea crossings.
