The Geopolitical Desk: Saddam Haftar’s Munich Appearance Highlights Army’s Expanding Diplomatic Reach

A British geopolitical website has reported that Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, is set to travel to Munich, Germany, to participate for the first time in the Munich Security Conference.
The move comes amid growing diplomatic visibility for the Libyan National Army on the international stage.

The Munich Security Conference is regarded as one of the world’s most influential security forums, regularly bringing together heads of state, defence ministers, intelligence chiefs, and senior policymakers from Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Asia. Participation in the conference is widely viewed as a strong indicator of international recognition and engagement.

According to the British outlet Geopolitical Desk, Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar’s presence at the conference reflects increasing international acknowledgement of his role and of the evolving position of the Libyan National Army within global security discussions.

The report places his Munich appearance within the context of what it described as a broader global diplomatic tour. In recent weeks, Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar has visited Turkey and Pakistan, while Benghazi has hosted several high-level foreign delegations, including Italy’s interior minister and senior intelligence officials.

The website noted that the political standing of the Libyan National Army has continued to shift from a period of isolation toward active diplomatic engagement. Sources cited by Geopolitical Desk said Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar is expected to deliver remarks in Munich before departing on another diplomatic visit.

Meanwhile, additional foreign delegations are expected to arrive in the Rajma area in eastern Libya, as preparations intensify for the launch of the Libyan National Army’s “Vision 2030” initiative in the coming weeks. Observers say this signals a broader transition for the LNA, moving beyond battlefield legitimacy toward a more structured political and strategic role.
