Calm has returned to the Janzour area west of Tripoli after a night of armed clashes between local armed formations, according to local media reports.
The clashes reportedly erupted following the arrest of a member of the Sixth Support Battalion, triggering confrontations with fighters affiliated with the 137th Western Coast Force. The incident quickly escalated into armed exchanges before mediation forces intervened to contain the situation.
The 52nd Battalion later stepped in to separate the rival groups and de-escalate tensions. Videos circulating on social media showed the deployment of conflict resolution forces across several flashpoints, accompanied by intensive patrols, as security conditions gradually stabilized.
Libya’s Emergency Medicine and Support Authority urged residents of Janzour to stay away from areas of confrontation, avoid windows and glass doors, and remain in safer locations inside their homes during the unrest. As of the latest updates, no official reports have confirmed civilian casualties.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of western Libya, where sporadic clashes between armed groups continue to pose risks to civilian safety despite periodic calm.
