Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency announced on Wednesday the deportation of 30 irregular migrants of Bangladeshi nationality through Benina International Airport, as part of its ongoing efforts to regulate migration and enforce national laws.
According to an official statement, the operation was carried out by the Benghazi branch of the agency in coordination with the International Organization for Migration.
The migrants were transferred from the branch’s holding facilities to Benina International Airport under the supervision of the airport’s deportation office, in accordance with established legal and administrative procedures.
The agency confirmed that the deportation was implemented following directives issued by its head, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi. The process was attended by senior officials, including the deputy head of the agency, the director of the Benghazi branch and his assistant, the head of the shelter office, and the director of confidential affairs at the agency’s headquarters. Their presence aimed to ensure that the operation adhered strictly to regulatory guidelines and internal procedures.
Officials stated that the step falls within a broader framework to address irregular migration in Libya and to manage the file in line with applicable legislation. The agency reiterated that deportation measures are conducted through coordinated mechanisms designed to uphold procedural standards while facilitating organized returns.
Libya continues to face complex migration dynamics due to its geographic location as a transit country. Authorities have periodically organized deportation flights and transfers in cooperation with international partners, seeking to streamline processes and reduce pressures on detention facilities.
