On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. They discussed bilateral ties as well as the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Libya.

Shoukry stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive and official ceasefire agreement, the need to dismantle militias, and the need to remove all foreign forces deployed in the North African country. The Egyptian FM urged the warring parties to engage in serious negotiations in order to reach the desired political solution.

He also highlighted Egypt’s keenness on Libyan interaction with the Cairo Declaration. Shoukry and Lavrov also discussed strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation. The two agreed to continue holding political consultations over issues of mutual concern.
