On Tuesday, the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio promised that the government is committed to finding a positive solution to the issue of the two fishing boats that were arrested in Libya last month.

This information was brought up in telephone calls between the Minister and the families of the two boats’ owners and their crews, Italian diplomat sources told AKI news agency.

The sources added that Di Maio informed the family members of the boats’ crews that a government summit will be held on the matter to take unanimous action.

They pointed out that Di Maio was keen to clarify the complexity of the situation and the timing in which it occurred. In addition, he confirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to support the families of the arrested fishermen.

Notably, 24 migrants have been presumed dead after their boat capsized off Libya last night.
