Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov received the Libyan politician and head of the “Ya Biladi” Party, Nuri Abu Sahmain, during his visit to Moscow.
In the meeting, the two exchanged views on the latest developments in Libya, and the active role Moscow could play to help end the Libyan crisis. They also stressed the importance of enhancing efforts to achieve an inclusive Libyan-led peace settlement. This would include the participation of all political powers, in order to ensure the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Libya.
The Russian official also discussed his view on uniting Libyan forces to avoid further fragmentation, and relieve the suffering of the people. The two agreed to continue consultations and coordination for the benefit of both countries.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated that Russia and Turkey have moved closer to reaching an agreement on a ceasefire, and a political process in Libya. A new round of high level meetings between Moscow and Ankara took place this week, to discuss the situations in Libya, and Syria.
It is noteworthy that Abu Sahmain was the last chairman of the General National Congress (GNC), from June 2013, until its dissolution in 2016.
