Libya’s GNA Cabinet Holds 3rd Regular Meeting in 2020

On Wednesday, Fayez Al-Sarraj, the head of the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), chaired the third regular Cabinet meeting in 2020 of the GNA Council of Ministers.

The meeting was attended by Ahmed Maiteeq, Abdulsalam Kajman, Mohammed Amari Zayed, and Ahmed Hamza, in addition to a number of ministers.

At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet adopted the minutes of the second regular Cabinet meeting of 2020.

Al-Sarraj briefed the Ministers on the outcomes of his meetings with the heads of municipalities. He addressed issues including the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, meeting the needs of displaced Libyans, waste disposal, municipal obligations and draft municipal financial regulations.

The Cabinet meeting also touched upon the report submitted by the Ministerial Committee that was formed to discuss economic reforms. Specifically, the Cabinet discussed cutting fuel subsidies and replacing them with direct cash support.

During the meeting, the Cabinet also agreed to form a body to monitor commercial competition in order to fulfill the requirements of the next economic phase.
