On Thursday, French media outlets revealed the identity of the 20-year-old young man who was fatally stabbed in the night from Saturday to Sunday at the Stade de Gerland metro station in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon, saying that he was of Libyan nationality.
Some French local newspapers said that the victim’s real name is not known, adding that he was previously involved in committing misdemeanour, but at that time he said he did not have identity papers.
The young man was assaulted by two individuals who stabbed him in the chest and hit him with broken bottles. Despite two witnesses of the incident trying to resuscitate him on the spot, the victim died.
According to the Synergie-Officiers Police Union, the two murderers of the young man were of Tunisian and Libyan nationalities.
This abominable murder aroused immense emotion in Lyon, comparable to that which followed the death of Axelle Dorier, a 23-year-old nursing aide, who was killed by a driver who dragged her for 800 meters in Fourvières last July.
Fanny Dubot, the mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Lyon, stated on Twitter that she was “horrified” by the murder.
“This violence is unacceptable, I trust the police to shed light on this tragedy,” she wrote.
