The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), held a meeting with the officials from the University of Benghazi (UoB).
They discussed cooperation and coordinating workshops and lectures for quality and performance improvement. DAAD has agreed to hold courses for the teaching staff of UoB to improve their skills. DAAD will also provide financial support for the UoB, according to a statement by the university.
UoB stated that it had agreed with DAAD to exempt Libyan students from submitting an English language certificate, for a doctoral or master’s study grant. This is due to the difficulty of travel, and the inability to undertake the IELTS or TOEFL exams in Benghazi.
The agreement aims to encourage students at the university, to apply for DAAD’s scholarship. It is worth noting that UoB students are the first students to receive a DAAD scholarship.
DAAD in Libya will offer scholarship programs for short and long-term stays in Germany, to strengthen and support junior university lecturers. There is also the option of applying for scholarships for selected master’s degree programs. DAAD grants are available for doctoral candidates, young scientists, and academics wishing to carry out research and continue their education in Germany.
Almost 10% of Germany’s university students are foreign, with most coming from China and India. There are 2.87 million university students in Germany, according to statistics from Deutsche Welle.
