Libyan Attorney General Orders Arrest of Afriqiyah Airlines Chairman

Libya’s Attorney General’s Office has ordered the arrest of the Chairman of Afriqiyah Airways, Mustafa Matoug.

Matoug is charged with corruption and mishandling of public funds.

Another order was issued for the arrest of Fawzi Al-Ramalli, Director of the Africa Trade and Investment Company in Mauritius. This company is affiliated with the Libyan Aid Fund. Al-Ramalli was also accused of misusing funds entrusted to him, despite being discharged from his duties.

There were also orders for the detention of the Head of Sahara Bank-Al-Mukhtar Branch. This was on serious charges of abuse of power, with the intention of assisting and benefitting others.

Recently, the Libyan supervisory authorities have arrested several officials. The charges are mostly related to corruption, and theft of public funds.
