Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, held talks on Libya with the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams.
UNSMIL said in a statement that Williams completed an official visit to Moscow yesterday, where she discussed the situation in Libya with Russian officials. “Williams held a productive meeting with Lavrov and discussed a wide range of issues related to the Libyan crisis. This includes security, political, and economic matters,” the statement read.
“She also briefed Minister Lavrov on the ongoing preparations by UNSMIL, to resume the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum at the end of this month. This will be on a virtual basis, and face-to-face meetings are to be held in early November, in Tunisia.”
Williams thanked Lavrov for Russia’s continuous support for the UN efforts in Libya. The statement pointed out that Lavrov and Williams agreed on the need for coordinated efforts by the International community, in support of the intra-Libyan dialogue. This is facilitated by the United Nations, in accordance with the Berlin Conference outcomes, and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
