GNA Officials to Visit Italy

On Tuesday, the Italian news agency AKI reported that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala, and Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha, are scheduled to visit the Italian capital, Rome.

AKI added that Bashagha is expected to arrive in Rome today, while Al-Sarraj and Siala will visit on Thursday. The senior officials will hold meetings with their Italian counterparts, focusing on issues including migration flows, bilateral economic cooperation, and developments in the Libyan crisis.

Notably, Prime Minister Al-Sarraj announced his resignation in September. “I declare my sincere desire to hand over my duties to the next executive authority, no later than the end of October,” he had explained. The PM was appointed in 2015 to lead the Presidential Council. This was part of the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) that was signed in Skhirat, Morocco.
