The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said that contacts have been intensified over the fate of Russian detainees in Libya.

In a statement to Sputnik, Zakharova said that efforts to secure the release of Russian citizens, Maxim Shugaley and Samer Sueifan, have increased. They have been detained in Libya for over a year, without charges.

Bloomberg cited sources familiar with the situation, stating that Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), would soon release the detained Russian nationals. They are expected to be returned to Russia in the coming days.
