On Wednesday, the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a Libyan delegation headed by the Speaker of Parliament, Ageela Saleh, arrived in Malta. The Libyan delegation is due to hold talks with the Maltese Prime Minister, Evarist Bartolo.

Malta’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the talks “will deal with the political process in Libya, and the Libyan-led dialogue.” It stressed that Malta, as a friendly neighbouring country, is committed to the “sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national unity of Libya.”

Saleh’s visit to Malta comes days after the signing of a permanent ceasefire, between the Government of National Accord (GNA), and the Libyan National Army (LNA). On 17 October, Bartolo had sent a message to the parties, stressing that they must meet, unite, and cooperate, in order for the country to prosper.

The Speaker began a foreign tour last Saturday, when he met with Moroccan officials in Rabat, including Habib Al-Maliki who is the head of Morocco’s Parliament. They discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the two sides.
