The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has launched an expanded joint security operation in Benghazi. The operation launched is due to enforce law and order as well as to maintain security.

This came during an urgent meeting that included the Libyan Interim Government’s Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Chief of General Staff, as well as security and military agencies.

Included in the operation’s tasks are the elimination of crime, requisition of illegal weapons, and the arrest of all groups who are accused of abuse of power within the military and security establishment.

It will also work to quickly arrest all wanted persons who are fuelling negative public opinion through hate speech.

The Commander in Chief emphasized the necessity of implementing all orders, within a specific period of time. He also stressed that all obstructers, negligent actors, and accomplices would be held legally accountable under his direct supervision.
