Libyan Army: Our Forces Will not Retreat Before all Turkish Mercenaries Leave

The General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) denied on Saturday rumours that it was withdrawing from its positions in Sirte.

In press statements, the Director of the LNA’s Moral Guidance Department, Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, said that the news circulating in this regard was “unfounded.” He stressed that there are arrangements and stages for the LNA to take such a step.

Al-Mahjoub indicated that the return of LNA forces to their camps must coincide with the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya. He expressed that this is included in the Geneva Agreement signed on 23 October.

Among the terms of the Geneva Agreement is the return of all military units and armed groups to their camps away from all contact lines, as well as the departure of all foreign mercenaries from Libyan territories within a maximum period of three months.

The Geneva agreement stipulates the freezing of military agreements on training inside Libya, and the departure of training crews until a new unified government is established in the country.
