The Head of the Moral Guidance Department in the Libyan National Army (LNA), Brigadier Khaled Al-Mahjoub, has confirmed that the UN military track is well underway. This track is meant to lead to the evacuation of foreign mercenaries from Libya, and the dismantling of illegal groups in the country.
Al-Mahjoub said that what distinguishes the existing dialogues from others, is the transfer of power from the hands of armed groups in Tripoli, to Sirte. This is to be done by transferring the headquarters of the state administration to Sirte, thus removing it from the hands of armed groups present in the Libyan capital.
Al-Mahjoub added that the military track will begin implementation steps on the ground in the main road between Misrata and Sirte. A comprehensive plan will be prepared for the distribution of security forces on the land road of Misrata, Al-Jufra, and Sirte.
He pointed out that the number of mechanisms and personnel has been determined, and the Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG) will also be unified. The LNA official pointed that the Libyans have the experience of the Skhirat agreement, and its repercussions. One such repercussion has been the militias’ intrusion and their control of political decisions and institutions in Tripoli. Al-Mahjoub also warned that the Libyan people are afraid that the Muslim Brotherhood will attempt to control the ongoing political dialogue sessions in Tunisia, known as the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).
Al-Mahjoub indicated that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is keen to diversify the elements of dialogue as it opened the way for great dialogue with the participation of many thinkers, and politicians. He added that, “The best solution to eliminate the power of the militias, in addition to the LPDF, is to transfer the main sovereign institutions from Tripoli to Sirte.”
