France, Germany, Italy, and the UK have issued a joint statement in which they agreed to take “measures” against those who obstruct the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).

“We are ready to take measures against those who obstruct the LPDF and other tracks of the Berlin process, as well as those who continue to plunder state funds or commit human rights abuses and violations throughout the country,” the joint statement said.

The second round of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) began on Monday via video conference. It is being chaired by the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams.

The statement noted that the EU members welcomed the UN-brokered dialogue, which aims to achieve peace and stability in Libya. “We welcome the results of the first round of the LPDF which took place in Tunis from 7-15 November based on UNSC resolution 2510 (2020) and the conclusions of the Berlin Conference on Libya.”

The Libyan recently rivals agreed on a roadmap for national elections on 24 December 2021. “This is an important step to restore Libya’s sovereignty and the democratic legitimacy of its institutions,” the statement explained.

France, Germany, Italy, and the UK also reiterated their calls to the Libyan parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement. The EU states urged the parties, with the support of UNSMIL, “to agree to a mechanism for the fair and transparent use of oil revenues for the benefit of the Libyan people.”
