Libyan Parliament Speaker To Discuss Libyan Crisis With Officials in Moscow

Ageela Saleh, the Speaker of the eastern-based Libyan Parliament, is scheduled to visit Moscow to discuss the most recent developments in Libya with Russian officials.

In press statements, Fathi Al-Meremi, Saleh’s advisor, said that the visit comes at the invitation of the Russian authorities.

Saleh is due to meet with senior Russian officials in order to discuss economic, diplomatic, and military issues related to Libya.

“He will also discuss the Turkish aggression against Libya”, Al-Meremi stated. The spokesperson highlighted the importance of Russia’s role as a regional and global power, and stressed the need to maintain the ceasefire.

The Speaker of the Moroccan Parliament, Al-Habib Al-Maliki, extended an invitation to his Libyan counterpart and a number of Libyan MPs from both Tripoli and Tobruk to meet in Rabat.

These consultative talks are part of Morocco’s efforts to build bridges between the Libyan rivals.

Last week, the UN-brokered political talks in Tunisia ended without reaching a firm agreement. Stephanie Williams, the Acting SRSG and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, stated in a press conference that participants agreed to continue the political dialogue because it is “the only solution to the Libyan crisis”.
