On Sunday, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Ahmed Maiteeq, held a virtual meeting with the mayors of southern municipalities in which he reviewed problems and difficulties hindering the provision of proper public services to the Libyan citizens.

The municipalities represented were that of Sebha, Bint Baya, Brak Al-Shati, Ubari, Al-Shwerif, Wadi Al-Bawanis, Al-Ghuraifah, Wadi Utbah and Al-Sharqiyah.

In a press briefing, the mayors announced that they had stressed during the meeting the need to establish a cabinet office in the southern region. The cabinet office would be tasked with completing the construction works of the Ubari gas station, as well as the Ubari Fujaj gas line project and the northern Sebha station.

During the talks with Ahmed Maiteeq, the mayors also discussed the developmental needs of the southern region, also known as the Fezzan. The mayors explained that their region requires more development projects such as roads linking all southern districts together, the provision of equipment to southern airports, and the resumption of domestic and foreign flights.

The mayors of municipalities also called on the Deputy PM to allocate emergency budgets to southern municipalities in order to overcome the multiple crises facing citizens.
