On Wednesday, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Libya, Lars Tummers, said his country is denouncing the illegal arrest of a Libyan senior doctor, and called for his immediate and unconditional release.

“We express our grave concern about the kidnapping of Dr. Al-Siddiq Bin Dallah and join UNSMIL in its calls for his immediate and unconditional release,” the Dutch Ambassador tweeted.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed its grave concern at the disappearance of Dr. Al-Siddiq Bin Dallah, a 66-year-old university professor and well-known orthopaedic surgeon who is the Deputy Head of the al-Khadra Hospital in Tripoli.

He is thought to have been kidnapped in the ‘11 June district’ in Tripoli on Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Ben Dallah’s car was ambushed and taken away by 4 armed uniformed men and his whereabouts remain unknown.

The UNSMIL has expressed alarm at the rising level of criminality across Libya at the hands of armed groups, who it said operate without impunity.
