On Wednesday, Peter Stano, the European Commission’s (EC) chief spokesman on foreign and security policy said that Libya’s file is one of the top concerns on the EC’s agenda. He added that there has recently been intensive discussions in regards to bringing an end to the conflict.

Stano’s statements came during an interview with “Al Sharq Al Awsat” newspaper on Monday.

Stano said that “recently, there were meetings and consultations among the member states to determine the main tasks of the mission, but with the spread of the Coronavirus, European institutions suspended all their meetings.”

He clarified on the Commission’s unanimous position, in that a ceasefire was necessary, in order to reach a political resolution to solve the dispute between the two warring sides.
