On Friday, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the Libyan crisis in a telephone call with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry.

Lavrov stressed the need to adhere to a comprehensive national dialogue in Libya. The two FMs renewed their commitment to the sovereignty of Libya, as well as to a peaceful settlement in accordance with the Berlin Conference, and UN Security Council resolutions

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also issued a statement saying Shoukry exchanged views with Lavrov regarding the developments taking place in Libya. The two sides agreed to continue political consultations on regional issues of common concern.

Libya’s two conflicting parties have escalated calls for war on Libya’s 69th Independence Day celebrations. Yesterday, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar threatened to use force against Turkish troops stationed in western Libya.
