On Sunday the Media Office of the Libyan Embassy in Cairo said that the Chargé d’Affaires to the Embassy, Tariq Misbah Al-Hawaij, requested the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exempt Libyans from entry fees to Egypt, which were set by the Egyptian authorities at $25.

In a statement, the Office said that the official memorandum submitted by Al-Hawaij requests “exempting Libyan citizens from paying these fees in order to activate the agreement signed between the two countries in 1992, which regulates the rights of movement, residence, work and ownership between the peoples of the two countries.”

The statement pointed out that the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior issued a decision imposing fees on travelers wishing to enter the Egyptian territories, at a rate of $25 to be paid at the port of arrival.

In the text of its decision, the Egyptian Interior Ministry set entry fees for all those coming to Egypt, “from all Arab countries with the exception of countries with which they have bilateral or regional agreements that include mutual exemptions from visa fees.”

On Saturday Afriqiyah Airways said that these fees are estimated at about $25 or its equivalent in the Egyptian currency. It noted that the Egyptian authorities decided to continue the normal procedures for entry, which include exempting those over the age of 45, children under five, and women from visa’s, while obliging them to pay the tax referred to in this decision.
