Libya’s Interior Ministry Denies Reports of Armed Attack Near Sirte

On Sunday, the Ministry of Interior of the Interim Government of National Unity (GNU) denied reports of an alleged attack on one of its own units at Sirte’s Gate 30 by an armed group.

In a statement, the Ministry said that, “some social media pages and news channels reported that the Gate 30, located West of Sirte, was attacked by an armed group that expelled the police forces stationed there and seized their vehicles.”

However, the Security Arrangements Committee of the Interior Ministry, emanating from the 5 + 5 Joint Military Commission (JMC), confirmed that such reports are untrue and baseless.

It noted that all security patrols on the coastal road are working properly, and the traffic on the road is regular.

The Ministry called on citizens not to be drawn into misleading news and malicious rumors that only aim to create a state of insecurity in the country.

Notably, Operation Volcano of Rage of the Libyan Army, based in Tripoli, on its Facebook account claimed that the 604th Brigade of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces was stationed in the vicinity of Gate 30 area hours ago. This was after they expelled the security forces of the Ministry of Interior and seized their vehicles.
