Mufti Al-Gharyani: “Suicide Operations Are Permissible”

Tripoli based Government of National Accord’s (GNA) mufti, Sadiq Al-Gharyani, claimed that suicide attacks were legitimate, according to Sharia Law, during his weekly ‘Islam and Life’ program on the Istanbul based ‘Al-Tanasoh’ channel.

“Detonation near the enemy, meaning if there is an impact, a shake and a break is permissible and legitimate”, in response to a viewer’s question, about whether it was permissible for a captured soldier to detonate himself as a final act of jihad.

During his program, Al-Gharyani called on “fighters and mujahideen” to continue their fight against the Libyan National Army (LNA) until victory was achieved, claiming that those who wished to stop the fighting due to COVID-19 fears, only wanted to allow the LNA to be able to regroup.

The mufti also stated that the GNA has failed to sever relations with states that have backed the LNA during this conflict, and that it would regret this lack of action. He called on the Presidential Council and the Interior Minister of the GNA to release all prisoners, including those arrested under terrorism charges, and that “their presence in prison would delay victory”.
