In a video statement on Sunday, the Local Council of Bani Walid reaffirmed its support for the Libyan National Army (LNA) in the current conflict against forces aligned to the Government of National Accord (GNA).
The Council protested the Arab League’s decision to continue recognizing the GNA amidst recent reports of atrocities committed by armed groups aligned with the Tripoli-based government, as well as the regional body’s inaction with respect to what the Council claimed was Turkish interference in Libya’s internal affairs. They also condemned the deployment of Syrian fighters on Libyan territory, saying it further destabilised the security situation in the country.
The Council underlined its support of the LNA’s campaign to free Tripoli of militias and extremist groups, and expressed solidarity with the residents of Sabratha, Surman and Tarhuna over reported revenge attacks against civilians committed by forces aligned to the GNA.
