Marei Al-Idrisi, the Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent, briefed US Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland and members of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) about the life-saving work carried out by the Libyan Red Crescent.

Al-Idrisi said that through its network of more than 36 branches and 8,000 volunteers across the country, the Red Crescent stood on the front lines of mitigating the impact of the current conflict on the civilian population.

Most recently, it has focused on the new challenge of helping to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Ambassador Norland said the United States is hoping for the armed conflict to end as soon as possible in order to alleviate the suffering of the Libyan people and enable authorities to focus on confronting the public health crisis in Libya.

Norland underscored his admiration for the work done by Al-Idrisi and the Red Crescent volunteers, adding that “Libya is fortunate to have such people working to alleviate the suffering in their country.”
