Turkish Drone Targets Fuel Truck and Food Supplies in Bani Walid

April 25, 2020

On Saturday, a Turkish drone deployed by the Government of National Accord (GNA) targeted a fuel truck in the city of Bani Walid, in western Libya.

This is the second time drones have targeted fuel supplies in Bani Walid. On April 6, a Turkish drone had targeted a fuel truck that was on its way to supply a gas station in Bani Walid.

Fuel shortages in the region as a result of the war have pushed residents of Bani Walid and surrounding areas to demand for more supplies of fuel and its derivatives.

The use of drones in Libya is becoming increasingly indiscriminate, with Turkey operating dozens of aerial assets in the skies of western Libya.

On April 12, a Turkish drone had targeted medical personnel and an ambulance near Bani Walid.

On April 3, a Turkish aircraft struck a flour and foodstuff warehouse in the Western Mountains region.

The airstrike destroyed a large number of supplies and wounded nine workers and civilians near the warehouse.

These attacks come at a time when the stockpiling of commodities is at an all-time high in the country due to fears of the prolonged effects on the global Covid-19 pandemic on Libya’s import-reliant economy.

On April 2nd, Turkish drones launched several airstrikes targeting three trucks loaded with fuel and ammunition near Bani Walid.
