The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami, welcomed the Libyan National Army’s (LNA) announcement to halt all military operations during the holy month of Ramadan in response to calls by the international community.

In a statement, Al-Salami urged all parties to adhere to the ceasefire and announce an effective humanitarian truce to stop the bloodshed in Libya.

The Arab Parliament Speaker called for a permanent ceasefire to create an atmosphere appropriate for a comprehensive political settlement. This would allow the country to end the current transitional period, achieve security and stability, and ensure its full sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also stressed the need to stop foreign interference that fuelled the present conflict. He demanded that Turkey abide by the UN arms embargo on Libya and bring an end to the transfer of foreign fighters to the North African nation.
