The Head of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, called on all political parties, and powers to assume their responsibilities to end divisions, and accelerate the resumption of political dialogue, under the auspices of the UN.

This is to pave the way for a comprehensive road map that includes and unites all Libyans, be it by amending the Libyan Political Agreement, or by agreeing on elections as soon as possible.

In a statement issued today, Al-Sarraj announced that he welcomed all political initiatives that call for a peaceful solution to the current crisis, away from fighting. He stressed the need to unify ranks to defeat Khalifa Haftar’s forces, and build the desired democratic civil state.

“This call comes at a time when state institutions are facing more divisions, and some of the people of these institutions are taking unilateral decisions for the country, overstepping the boundaries of their roles and authority. This has resulted in increasing the economic, and financial suffering of citizens, recently exacerbated by the spread of COVID-19, in addition to the continued aggression on the capital and other Libyan cities” the statement added.
