On Wednesday, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced in a statment that the Al-Feel oil field had been forced to shut down again, only a few days after restarting operations.
The Corporation asserted that the field was closed on the orders of Youssef Hussein Al-Tabawi, a commander of the Khaled bin Al-Walid battalion.
He ordered the oil field workers to stop production, a few days after the reopening of the closed valves in Hamada.
The Corporation said this was a serious criminal act against the Libyan people and their interests.
The NOC claimed it would legally pursue those responsible, stating that “those who work to ruin the economy and the future of the country must pay the price for their crimes.”
Al-Feel is a southwestern oil field that previously produced 70,000 barrels per day.
It is linked to the Sharara oilfield, which was also shut down shortly after reopening on Saturday.
The current conflict in Libya is due to the Libyan National Army’s attempts to capture Tripoli from forces aligned with the Government of National Accord. The fighting has been ongoing since April 2019.
