On Thursday, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry welcomed the initiative launched by Egypt to resolve the conflict in Libya.
In a statement, the Ministry expressed its appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Libyan crisis.
Such a solution should secure peace and stability for Libya, and restore security and prosperity to its people, the Ministry said.
Many countries have welcomed the initiative launched by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi last Saturday, which is being referred to as the ‘Cairo Declaration’.
The latter stresses the necessity of achieving a ceasefire between the warring parties in Libya, in addition to unifying state institutions. It also rejects external interference in Libya.
On Wednesday, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) confirmed the resumption of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Commission in Geneva.
The UN mission condemned the discovery of a number of bodies in Tarhuna Hospital and called on the Government of National Accord to clarify the matter.
