EU Commission Extends Ban on Libyan Airlines

June 14, 2020

The European Commission has published the names of airlines included in the “EU Safety List” which extends the ban on Libyan airlines to fly into the EU for the sixth year.

The list presents airlines that are subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union as they do not meet international safety standards.

The latest update of the list showed that 96 certified airlines were banned in 16 countries, including airlines from Libya, due to insufficient safety oversight by the aviation authorities.

In December 2014, the European Union banned all direct flights carried by Libyan airlines in its airspace, due to legitimate concerns regarding passenger safety.
